South Dakota FFA chapters recognized with national chapter awards

BROOKINGS — Members at the 98th South Dakota State FFA Convention recognized outstanding chapters through the National Chapter Award Program on Wednesday, April 22, during the fourth session at First Bank and Trust Arena, sponsored by the SDSU College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences.

The National Chapter Award is the highest honor a chapter can receive and recognizes those that actively implement the mission of FFA through a strong Program of Activities. Chapters are evaluated in three areas: Growing Leaders, Building Communities, and Strengthening Agriculture.

The following chapters received a Superior rating:

Arlington

Belle Fourche

Beresford

Bridgewater-Emery

Brookings

De Smet

Dells

Freeman

Garretson

Gregory County

Harrisburg

Hitchcock-Tulare

Howard

McCook Central

Parker

Tea Area

Tri-Valley

Of these, the top chapters advancing to national competition are: Arlington, Belle Fourche, Beresford, Bridgewater-Emery, Brookings, Freeman, Garretson, Gregory County, Harrisburg, Howard, McCook Central and Tea Area.

Awards were also presented in each category:

2nd — Beresford

3rd — Arlington

Building Communities (sponsored through the South Dakota FFA Foundation by Sandra Nelson):

1st — Brookings

2nd — Arlington

3rd — Freeman

Strengthening Agriculture (sponsored through the South Dakota FFA Foundation by Wyatt and Zana DeJong):

1st — Brookings

2nd — Harrisburg

3rd — Bridgewater-Emery

The overall National Chapter Award, sponsored by the South Dakota FFA Foundation by New Edge Advisors and Wyatt and Zana DeJong, recognizes the top chapter across all three areas. Results were:

1st — Brookings

2nd — Arlington

3rd — Beresford

These chapters were recognized for developing meaningful activities that support members, strengthen communities, and promote agriculture across South Dakota.
