Letter – Bigge 5-16-26

To the editor:

On behalf of the Huron Federated Music Club, I would like to thank Jamee Kattner, Miss South Dakota, for coordinating Huron’s celebration of the NFMC National Music Week which was held May 3-10.

Jamee was able to continue the legacy of her grandmother, Barb Valer, who passed in November. Barb Valer was our federation club member who tirelessly led the club and community every year during National Music Week with her enthusiasm and spirit. She was a strong believer in promoting music wherever she could.

We would like to thank Mayor Mark Robish for declaring May 3-10 as National Music Week in Huron. Several individuals shared their thoughts in editorials about this year’s theme, “Music is our constant companion”.

The week was highlighted with senior home programs, piano recitals and school music programs. A coloring contest for fourth graders was sponsored by our club. The public and school libraries created displays. The marquees at the HEC/Huron Public Library and Huron Visitor Center along with Huron Radio News spread the word. Also, we must thank the Plainsman for their wonderful coverage and editorials during the week. We are so fortunate to have their presence in our community.
