HURON –– Deborah Wright, age 77, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026, at her home under hospice care. A private family service was held with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Huron. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Beadle County Humane Society.
Deborah Lynn was born on December 15, 1948, in Huron to parents Donald and Dorothy (Parker) Ocean.
Deborah’s greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart. She had a deep love for cats and found happiness in caring for her home and the people she loved. Deborah was selfless by nature, always putting the needs of others before her own and making sure those around her were cared for and comforted. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
Deborah was lovingly cared for by her companion of 37 years, LaWayne Wipf. Her family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Avera Hospice for the compassionate and loving care they provided.
Deborah is survived by her companion, LaWayne of Huron; her son, John Wright; three step-sons, Jason (Jennifer) Wipf, Jeremy Wipf, and Dusty Wipf; grandchildren, Amber Wright of Rapid City, James Wright of Rapid City, Mychaela (Nate) Rybin, Carson (Taylor Anderson) Wipf, Serena (Caleb) Bernard, Marley Wipf, Bobby Wipf, and Moses (Abby) Wipf; great-grandchildren, Sophia Belle Wright, Micah Lliam Raiyne Wright, River Rainbow Skye Wright, and Naomi Wipf; her sister Deenna Gaffney and her brother Donald Ocean; and her beloved cat, Luna. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Johnny Gooding.
