PIERRE — Miller won the Region 5B golf titles on Tuesday at Hillsview Golf Course.
Miller used a score of 257 to win the girls’ title, while Selby Area was second at 292. Rounding out the field of teams were Eureka at 312, Mobridge-Pollock at 317 and Gettysburg at 374.
The Rustlers had four girls in the top 11, led by Jayce Pugh. She won the event with a 79.
Kaihlyn Anderberg was third for Miller at 87, while Sydney Asmus was fourth at 91.
Bailey Brueggeman was 11th for the Rustlers at 105.
Miller used a score of 251 to edge Gettysburg by three points for the Region 5B boys’ title.
Stanley County was third in the 11-team event with a 260, while Lyman was fourth at 262 and Sully Buttes was fifth at 265.
Highmore-Harrold was 10th at 305.
Derek Brueggeman turned in a low round of 74 to claim the Region 5B title for Miller.
Oliver Fritzsche was fourth for the Rustlers at 82, while Luke Norden was 24th with a 95 and Jorryn Heilman was 25th at 96.
Brooks McPeak led Highmore-Harrold with a 97 to finish 27th, while Karsten McPeak and Preston Aesoph were No. 34 and 35, respectively, with scores of 104.
Davian Knox was 43rd for the Pirates at 137.
The Miller teams will advance to the Class B State Tournaments, which will be held June 1-2 in Brookings. The girls’ tournament will be played at Edgebrook Golf Course, while the boys’ tournament will be played at the Brookings Country Club.
Wessington Springs wins Region 2B boys’ title
BROOKINGS — With two of the top four players in the tournament, Wessington Springs won the Region 2B boys’ golf title on Tuesday at Brookings Country Club.
The Spartans finished with a total of 249 to edge Howard by two points for the top spot. De Smet was third in the 12-team field with a 253, while Estelline/Hendricks was fourth at 260 and Hamlin was fifth at 262.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was ninth at 274, while Iroquois/Lake Preston was 11th at 298.
JD Thompson carded a 79 for Wessington Springs to claim the medalist honors in the tournament, while Gradyn Henrich of De Smet was second with an 80.
Rounding out the top five were Aiden Abraham of Hamlin with a 80, Luke Larson of Wessington Springs with an 80 and Larz Tvedt of Wolsey-Wessington with an 81.
Other area golfers in the top 20 were Sam Baruth of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket, who was 11th at 85; Maxxon Kees of De Smet, who was 12th with an 85; and Carter Wilkinson of De Smet, who was 17th with an 88.
Rounding out the scoring lineup for Wessington Springs was Tucker Thompason with a 90 to finish in spot No. 22.
McCoy Schulz of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was 29th at 92.
The top three teams, along with players finishing 29th or above, advance to the Class B State Tournament, which will be held June 1-2 at the Brookings Country County.
Girls
De Smet teammates Brooke Jennings and Harper Anderson were third and fourth, respectively, with scores of 88 and 89 in the Region 2B Girls’ Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Edgebrook Gold Course in Brookings.
Ava Crooks of Deubrook Area won the event with an 85, while Hallie Schulz of Howard was second with an 88.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Allison Westendorf was 12th at 100, followed by Kaitlyn Braun of Wessington Springs with a 100.
Addison Bartholow of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was 17th with a 103.
Deubrook Area won the girls’ title with a 265, while Elkton-Lake Benton was second at 302 and Howard was third at 306.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was fifth at 312 and De Smet was sixth at 317.
The top 18 girls and the top three teams advance to the Class B State Tournament, which is scheduled June 1-2 and Edgebrook Golf Course.

Redfield closes season at Region 3A Meet
MITCHELL — The Redfield girls’ golf team capped its season at the Region 3A Tournament on Tuesday at the Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.
Chamberlain won the event with a 374, while Winner was second at 390 and Mt. Vernon/Plankinton was third at 474.
Trey Speer of Chamberlain was the individual medalist with an 83, while Gracie Root of Winner was second at 87.
Rounding out the top five were Natalie Nelson of Chamberlain with a 94, Isabella Ganje of Cheyenne-Eagle Butte with a 96, and Jayde McQuirke of Chamberlain at 96.
Kalli Spotanske carded a 126 for Redfield, while Willow Ronneberg finished at 131.
The top three teams, along with the top 15 individuals (scores under 115) qualify for the Class A State Tournament, which will be held June 1-2 Two Rivers Golf Club in North Sioux City.
