Area Memorial Day programs on Monday

A number of Heartland communities are hosting Memorial Day programs on Monday. These are the ones submitted to the Plainsman.

Huron

The Huron Veterans Counsel is hosting a Memorial Day program Monday at 10 a.m. at the Huron High School Auditorium. Tom Glanzer is the guest speaker with special music provided by Davis Osier and Yoselyn Yates. Boy Scout Troop 222 will perform a laying of wreaths ceremony.

Alpena

Memorial Day services are set in Alpena on Monday with a service that will begin at 4 p.m. at the Alpena Community Center with a free-will offering meal following. The speaker will be from the 153rd Engineer Battalion South Dakota Army National Guard. Also, during the service will be a dedication time for the new registry at the Rest Haven Cemetery in Alpena. Special music will be provided by Leo Jensen and Dylan and Tabitha Unruh.

Hitchcock

The annual Memorial Day service at Altoona Cemetery is set for Monday at 11 a.m. Lunch will follow at Hitchcock Legion Hall. Lunch is provided for a free-will donation by the Hitchcock Community Planners and American Legion Auxiliary.

Iroquois

The Bensley-Round American Legion Post 280 of Iroquois will be hosting a Memorial Day Program at the Iroquois School South Gym on Monday at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be Sons of the American Legion Casey Hanson of Arlington. Also speaking will be the senior and eighth grade Good Citizenship Recipients Skyla Harris, Rexton Blue, Clarissa Hanson, and Leland Seefeldt. Diane Perry will provide music. A meal will follow at the Iroquois American Legion Hall with free-will donations. The public is encouraged to attend.
