13U drops three at Brandon tourney
BRANDON – Huron’s 13U team dropped three games over the weekend as part of the Sunshine Foods Silver Slugger Tournament in Brandon.
Two big innings doomed the Tigers in the opening game against Le Mars (IA). Le Mars put up four runs in the first and nine in the third to take a 13-3 victory.
Parker Bischoff took the loss for the Tigers, going three innings, allowing 13 runs on eight hits and seven walks while striking out four.
The Huron offense was able to get a single and a double from Carter Porisch and a double from Bischoff to pace the attack. Sean Janes and Quincy Rashaad each had a stolen base.
The Huron offense was only able to muster five baserunners as eventual champion Brandon Valley Black took an 11-0 victory Saturday.
Josh Gilbert took the loss, tossing 5 2/3 innings, allowing nine runs on 10 hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Blaise Simon recorded the final out, but not until Brandon Valley scored a pair of runs on two hits and a walk off him.
In the play-in game for the championship bracket Sunday, Huron lost to the Dakota Tigers 9-4.
Dakota came out with four runs in the first inning and never looked back, leaving Huron with fifth place in the seven-team 13U bracket.
Colt Culver allowed four runs in the first inning on a hit and two walks, striking out one. Jimmie Martin allowed four unearned runs over the next two innings on two hits and two walks while striking out three. Porisch tossed the game’s final two innings, allowing a run on a hit and a walk, striking out four.
The Huron offense had plenty of opportunities, with 12 baserunners on the day. Jackson Ford recorded a double and Gilbert a triple to lead the offense. Martin stole two bases and Porisch nabbed one.
Huron will take a 3-10-1 record into Wednesday’s doubleheader against Brandon Valley Red at Klock Field beginning at 5 p.m.
