Sanborn Central-Woonsocket 43, Faulkton Area 40
HURON — Megan Poyer converted on four of six free throws in the final 26.8 seconds of play to help the Sanborn Central-Woonsocket girls’ basketball team clinch a 43-40 victory against Faulkton Area during the 2018 Holiday Classic held Saturday at Huron Arena.
The two teams were tied at 19 following the first half of play. Sanborn Central-Woonsocket outscored the Lady Trojans 14-8 in the third quarter to carry a 33-27 advantage into the final quarter.
Poyer would finish with a game-high 13 points for the Lady Blackhawks, who improved to 3-2, while Kaylee White had 12 points and Trinity Boschee added seven points.
Poyer also had a team-high 10 rebounds for Sanborn Central-Woonsocket. Madi Moody and Tesa Jensen each had two assists, while Poyer and Abby Vermeulen each had two steals.
Brooke Niederbaumer was the lone player to reach double figures for Faulkton Area with a game-high 18 points. Taylor Cramer snagged nine rebounds, while Morgan Melius had three steals.
Both teams are back in action on Thursday. The Lady Blackhawks are at Howard, while Faulkton Area, which is also 3-2, hosts Herreid-Selby Area.

Lyman 66, Howard 62
HURON — Lyman earned its second straight win with a 66-62 victory against Howard during the 2018 Holiday Classic on Saturday at Huron Arena.
The Raiders, who improved to 2-4, outscored Howard 22-10 in the second quarter to build a 32-18 advantage at the half.
The Tigers responded with a 21-13 effort against Lyman in the third quarter to slice their deficit to 45-39 heading into the final quarter. Howard then put up 23 points in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Raiders, who had 21 points in the final stanza.
Brenden Estes finished with a game-high 27 points and five rebounds to lead Lyman. Baptiste Pourier also reached double figures with 18 points.
Sam McClanahan had three assists, while Carter Collins and Pourier each had three steals.
Jacob Brooks led the Tigers, who are now 2-5, with 22 points, while Tisyn Spader had 11 points.
Brooks also had a team-high six rebounds and four assists for Howard, while Ryder Erickson also had four assists.
The Tigers will host Sanborn Central-Woonsocket on Thursday, while Lyman will host Colome on Jan. 7.

Gayville-Volin 51, Iroquois 36
HURON — Gayville-Volin recorded its fifth straight win with a 51-36 victory against Iroquois during the 2018 Holiday Classic at Huron Arena.
The Raiders, who improved to 5-1, led 17-10 at the end of the first quarter and outscored Iroquois 12-5 in the second quarter for a 29-15 lead at the half.
The Chiefs managed to outscore Gayville-Volin 14-9 in the third quarter, but didn’t have enough left in the tank to catch the Raiders in the final quarter.
Chase Huether netted 17 points to lead Gayville-Volin with 17 points. Tristan Gustad and Skyler Gustad added nine points each.
Tristan Gustad snagged 11 rebounds to help the Raiders to a 44-31 advantage on the boards.

Keistan Dubro sparked Iroquois with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Brandon Decker had nine points, three assists and two steals.
Gayville-Volin will host Irene-Wakonda on Friday, while the Chiefs are off until Jan. 8, when they host Wolsey-Wessington in a 281 Conference matchup.

Faulkton Area 46, Ethan 26
HURON — Faulkton Area limited Ethan to single digits in each of the four quarters en route to a 46-26 victory during the 2018 Holiday Classic on Saturday at Huron Arena.
The victory snapped a two-game losing skid for the Trojans, who are now 3-2.
After opening a 9-7 lead in the first quarter, the Trojans led 20-16 at the half.
The Rustlers managed just four points in the third quarter and six points in the final quarter, allowing Faulkton Area to pull away for the win.
Derek Heitmann had 16 points to lead three players in double figures for the Trojans. He also had a team-high nine rebounds and four steals.
Nick Schlechter and Tyler Ogle added 14 and 11 points, respectively, for Faulkton Area. Ogle also had three assists.
Eric Gustafson and Brady Hawkins each had eight points for Ethan, which is now 0-4. Hawkins also had six rebounds and two steals, while Kaden Klumb had a pair of steals.
Faulkton Area will face Hitchcock-Tulare in Tulare on Friday, while Ethan will play Avon on Thursday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.

HURON — Rapid City Christian remained undefeated with a 58-53 victory against Sanborn Central-Woonsocket during the 2018 Holiday Classic on Saturday at Huron Arena.
After staking a 21-13 lead in the opening quarter, the Comets found themselves trailing 27-26 after being outscored 14-5 by the Blackhawks in the second quarter.
Rapid City Christian regained the lead with a 16-13 scoring advantage in the third quarter and used the same 16-13 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to improve to 4-0.
Zane Schlabach had 12 points to lead a balanced attack for the Comets. Levi Vanden Bos had nine points, while David Schmagel and Sam Schlabach added eight points each.
David Greni led Rapid City Christian with eight rebounds, while Vanden Bos had three steals.
Noah Dickson had a game-high 21 points  and 13 rebounds to lead Sanborn Central-Woonsocket, which is now 3-2. Tater Moody added 13 points and had four assists and two steals.
Rapid City Christian will face Corsica-STickney in the Parkston Classic, which was postponed to today, while the Blackhawks will travel to play Howard on Thursday.

Leola-Frederick Area 88, James Valley Christian 83
HURON — In a triple-overtime thriller, Leola-Frederick Area emerged with an 88-83 victory against James Valley Christian on Saturday during the 2018 Holiday Classic at Huron Arena.
Back-to-back 3-pointers to start the third overtime propelled the Titans to their third victory in a row.
The Vikings carried a 65-51 lead into the final quarter, but were outscored 14-6 to force the overtime.
Tanner Geffre had 22 points to lead four players in double figures for Leola-Frederick Area, which is now 4-2. Isaac Sumption and Haydn Podoll had 20 and 19 points, respectively, while Josh Hoffman added 14 points.
Geffre also had 13 rebounds to help the Titans to a 40-38 edge on the boards.
All five starters reached double figures for JVC and were the only players in the scoring column.
Josh Wieting had a game-high 24 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Vikings. Colton Schweigert had 18 points and was followed by Branden Held, who also had four 3-pointers, with 17, Darrian Hood with 12 and Derek Thompson with 10.
Hood pulled down 10 rebounds for JVC, which is now 2-2.
The Vikings will travel to face Wolsey-Wessington in a 281 Conference matchup on Thursday, while Leola-Frederick Area will face Waubay/Summit in Waubay on Saturday.

HURON — Miller held on for its second win of the season with a 40-34 victory against Hitchcock-Tulare on Saturday during the 2018 Holiday Classic at Huron Arena.
The Rustlers held an 18-17 lead at the end of the opening half and led 29-27 heading into the final quarter.
Karst Hunter led the Miller attack with a game-high 21 points and 14 rebounds. Garrett Knox and Eli Jones added six and five points, respectively.
Grant Hamilton led the Patriots, who are now 0-6, with 14 points. Ty Hofer had seven points, while Gabe Clark had five points. Hofer also had a team-high eight rebounds, while Hamilton and Coby Stoner each had two steals.
Miller, which is 2-3, will host Mobridge-Pollock on Thursday. Hitchcock-Tulare will face Faulkton Area in Tulare on Friday.
