2019 Friends of Rodeo Award to be presented

Posted

This weekend marks the 30th annual Heartland 4-H Rodeo. The rodeo committee has been blessed with many supporters throughout the years and many of which have been involved without much recognition.
Thanks to the Huron Sertoma Club, they are able to highlight an individual, family or organization that has contributed socially, economically, or culturally, to the betterment of the immediate Beadle County area with heavy emphasis on youth, rodeo and other equine activities through the Friends of Rodeo Award.
This year the Heartland 4-H Rodeo Association will be recognizing Ben and Joy Meyer of Huron for their work and support for 4-H Rodeo, Beadle County 4-H, youth and the community.
Through the years Ben and Joy have been involoved in many aspects of the Heartland 4-H  Rodeo. Both competed in the rodeo and Joy helped her parents hang posters and ask for donations while they were in 4-H.
Since then both have helped work on the grounds getting ready for the rodeo, worked with sponsors and continue to hold board and officer positions.
Ben has been the voice of the large arena for 15 years, and announced several other rodeos and 4-H activities.  They both also have helped and donated auction services for numerous benefit and organization auctions.
They worked with the Huron Chamber and Ben currently sits on the Chamber board as well as the S.D. Auctioneer Association Board and is the S.D. Ambassador for the National Auctioneer Association.
Joy is also on the S.D. State 4-H Rodeo Ambassador Committee.
Their children, William, Tate and Brady Meyer, have also learned the importance of giving back and you will see them pushing calves, swinging gates or setting barrels at the rodeo, or taking bids at the benefit auctions. Their support and work is appreciated.
Ben and Joy will receive the “Wild Steer” bronze as a traveling award for the year during a presentation at the Heartland 4-H Rodeo on Sunday.

Rodeo Performances are this Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Heartland Arena east of Huron on Highway 14.
