HURON — Monday’s numbers from the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) revealed two new positive cases for Beadle County. The county had no new recovered cases announced, so the active cases in the county rose to 46.

In questioning, DOH Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon revealed that the Sept. 18 testing for fair workers drew 32 attendees, one of whom tested positive. Between the two testing days, Sept. 11 and Sept. 18, 63 total people were tested with 1,000 total tests available. All had to have forms as workers from the fair in order to qualify for the state-sponsored testing.

The state announced 173 new positive cases across the state. The active COVID-19 cases in South Dakota rose to 2,890.

In the Heartland region, Kingsbury and Sanborn counties each added new positive cases in Monday’s numbers.

Overall, the new positive cases brought the seven-county Heartland region’s total positive cases to 1,001.
