‘A’ girls; ‘B’ girls and boys set for state meets

HURON — Seniors Ryan Stahl of James Valley Christian, Cody Cavanaugh of De Smet and Jacob Messmer of Wessington Springs will close their high school careers at the Class B State Boys’ Golf Tournament on Monday and Tuesday at the Brookings Country Club.

Play is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., both days.

Other area golfers qualified for the state tournament are juniors Kalen Garry and Rett Osthus of De Smet; junior Bordy Leisinger of Highmore-Harrold; junior Jevin Goertz of JVC; sophomore Teagan Mason of Iroquois/Doland, freshman Blake Larson of Wessington Springs and seventh-grader Derek Brueggemann of Miller.

Class B girls
With four individuals reaching the state tournament, Miller will compete in the team competition at the Class B State Girls’ Golf Tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings.
Play will begin at 8:30 a.m., both days.

Making up the roster for Miller will be sophomore Mackenzie Kopecky, freshman Cassi Vanderwerff and seventh-graders Jayce Pugh and Kaihlyn Anderberg.

Other area golfers competing in the Class B State Meet are junior Dayton Easton of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket; sophomore Olivia Rink of James Valley Christiam; and freshman Jalen Holm of Clark/Willow Lake.

Class A girls
Senior Abby Evans of Redfield is the lone area golfer to qualify for the Class AA State Girls’ Golf Touanrment.

The events is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. MT on Monday and Tuesday at Spearfish Canyon Country Club.
