Light rain across much of South Dakota on Friday morning quickly deteriorated into a full-blown South Dakota blizzard by later in the day. Heavy, wet snow, driven by winds of up to 50 miles per hour, continued through much of Saturday, forcing most businesses to remain closed. The National Weather Service officially listed snowfall of 15.6 inches, although a spokesperson for the NWS said that a person north and east of town reported 19” of snowfall.
