MILLER — Abbie Hill, 104, of Miller, passed away Friday, September 16, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society in Miller.


Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Reck Funeral Home in Miller. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be at Morningside Cemetery in Ree Heights.


Abbie was born March 26, 1918, to Luther and Laura (MacKenzie) Brown in Magnolia, Iowa. She attended school in Iowa through the 8th grade. In 1942, she moved to Miller to live with her aunt, Etna Garven. She married Henry Lingscheit in 1943 in Wessington Springs. They made their home on a ranch in Gann Valley before moving to Miller in 1966. Henry passed away in July of 1969. 

On March 12, 1971, she married Leroy Hill at the Presbyterian Church in Miller. Leroy passed away in October of 2003.  


Throughout her life she farmed and was a cook at the Miller hospital and nursing home. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, gardening, yardwork, baking, traveling, and fishing. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Miller and VFW Auxiliary.


She is survived by her nieces: Betty (Jim) Hanig of Pukwana, Marijean (Leonard) Petersen of Pierre, Barb Woockman of Huron and Georgia (Terry) Fraker of Brandon; nephews: Larry Brown of Garden Grove, Calif., and Harvey Hill of Sioux Falls; sister-in-law, Marion Hill of Superior, Neb.; special friends, the Bill Lewellen family; and many relatives in South Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, and Arkansas.


She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; four sisters; husbands: Henry Lingscheit and Leroy Hill; brothers-in-law: Lloyd, Orville, Everett and Frank Hill; and sisters-in-law: Ethel Brown and Jeanne Hill.
