Aberdeen blanks Lady All-Stars

HURON — Kailyn Poppen recorded a hat trick to lead the Aberdeen Lady Cougars to a 10-0 victory against the Huron Lady All-Stars in the league opener for both teams on Friday night at Bergman Arena.

Poppen had the first two goals in the opening period to help Aberdeen to a 2-0 lead. The first was assisted by Madalynn Witte, while the Aiden Raap assisted on the second goal.

The Lady Cougars stretched their lead to 4-0 with a pair of goals in the second period.

Ema Rehder scored the first of her two goals on a power play to put Aberdeen ahead 3-0. Taylor Nash and Raap assisted on the play.

Sydney Hofer scored on a pass from Witte for the fourth goal of the game.

Alyssa Roehrich opened the scoring in the final period for the Cougars, with Lauren Scheel and Rehder assists.

Rehder then scored on a pass from Scheel, before Raniesa Mattke found the net with Hofer and Reece Ermer assisting.

Hofer scored her second goal of the game with Nash and Roehrich combining on the assist.

Poppen netted her third goal on a pass from Scheel and Allison Woehl capped the scoring for Aberdeen with an unassisted goal.

Aberdeen finished with a 44-7 shots-on-goal advantage. Huron goalie Marissa Ready had 34 saves.

Ellen Orr earned the win for the Lady Cougars with the shutout.

The Lady All-Stars will host Rushmore at 7 p.m., today and again at 10 a.m. Sunday at Bergman Arena.
