Aberdeen Central wins titles at Roger Loecker Invitational

HURON — Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles were the winning team in both boys’ and girls’ division of the Varisty 5K run at the recently re-named Roger Loecker Invitational, held Thursday at Broadland Creek. The “AA” State Championships will be held in Rapid City on Saturday, Oct. 21.
Finishing first in the girls’ varsity run was Aberdeen Central’s Melanie Jacobs, with a time of 19:38.82, followed by Hunter Martlee of Pierre.
Samantha Shoultz of Huron took third place in 20:46.19 in the girls’ varsity run, while Jordan Adams was 17th and Braylee Thomas took 18th place.
Rounding out the Huron lineup were Alissa Gauer in 33rd place and right behind in 34th was Susana Olvera-Camacho.
The Golden Eagles finished first and second in individuals for the boys’ Varisty run with Jackson Harrison finishing in 16:44.77, followed by Aaron Ryan at 17:14.33.
Leading Huron was Carlos Yanes in 11th place finishing in 18:45.86, Frank Hines finished 16th and in 35th place Spencer LaFortune.

Angel Granados and Shelby Vanden Hoek finished in 38th and 39th place.
