Agnes Teveldal, 91, of Huron

HURON — Agnes Teveldal, 91, of Huron, died Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the SunQuest Healthcare Center.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 17, at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Altoona Cemetery at Hitchcock. Visitation is today from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with her family present from 5 to 7 p.m. this evening.
Agnes Ileen Boomsma was born on June 1, 1925, in Broadland to Steve and Elizabeth (Miedema) Boomsma. She graduated from Huron High School in 1943.
On January 11, 1946, Agnes married Kenneth Rathjen at her parents’ family farm near Hitchcock. After Kenneth’s death in 1963, she continued to manage the family farm with her children until 1973, when she moved to Huron. On October 17, 1975, she married Lloyd Teveldal at Huron. He passed away in 1983.
Agnes was employed at Royal Distributing. She also was a cook at the Plains Café for a short time. She then was employed by the Huron Public Schools for many years.
Agnes was known by her family as a good homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, and cooking meals. Some of her favorite activities were playing cards with her brother, and tea time daily with family members. Agnes was athletic throughout much of her adult life, playing softball and fast pitch as a pitcher well into her 40’s. She also was a bowler and went to state tournaments on occasion. Agnes enjoyed traveling to visit family in Holland. She also toured Germany, Belgium and Austria. Most of all, she cherished every moment with her family, especially with her grandchildren.
Agnes was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Hitchcock and recently received her 60 year membership pin. She was also a member of the BCNU Extension Club.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Sandy (Harlan) Gerlach of Summerset, Richard “Butch” (Cindy) Rathjen of Huron, Kay (Don) Peterson of Huron, Rita (Ray) Waldner of Hitchcock, Ida (Charley) Snead of Gillette, Wyo., and Tom (Malinda) Rathjen of Hitchcock; stepdaughter, Jackie Stelter of Fairmont, Minn.; stepdaughter-in-law, Pat Teveldal of Fairmont, Minn.; twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Liz Hiles of Huron; sisters-in-law, Dee Schaefer, Leona Hanson, Kay Boomsma and Sally Boomsma; and brothers-in-law, Ivan Teveldal and Ole Teveldal.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Kenneth Rathjen and Lloyd Teveldal; great-grandson, Michael Peterson; stepson, Bruce Teveldal, infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth; siblings, Richard Boomsma, Jake Boomsma, Reva Stengle and Carol Brenner; brother-in-law, Leonard Teveldal; and sisters-in-law, Pearl Krog, Edna Brandenberg, Verna Koerner and Lila Kludt.
 In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
