HURON — Alice Hamilton, 78, of Huron and formerly of Wessington, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018, at her home.
Her memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 25, at the Bonilla Presbyterian Church in Bonilla. Burial will be in the Bonilla Cemetery at a later date. Her visitation is today from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Kuhler Funeral Home with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. A time of sharing will be held at 6:30 p.m. this evening.
Alice Schuldt was born December 23, 1939, at San Diego, Calif. to Floyd and Edith (Nielsen) Schuldt. She graduated from Erwin High School and went on to earn her teaching certificate at Northern State Teachers College.
On August 10, 1958, Alice married Herbert Hamilton at Erwin and moved to Wessington where they farmed, raised cattle, sheep, pigs, and had a fertilizer business.  At her new home, she taught at Hitchcock for five years. She retired from teaching to become the person we know best, a farmwife.
Like most mid-western families, she was the glue that held everything together. She cooked, cleaned, settled disputes, tended to the livestock, did the books, and raised a family in her spare time. God will need to make room for the 30 cats, she once fed twice per day that will surely follow her.
She enjoyed gardening, baking, attending kids/grandkids events, visiting with anyone, and travelling the USA and the world with Zip/Hubbard dealers. Alice and Herb visited Germany, France, Finland, Estonia, Italy, and Australia.
She was a member of the BYY’s extension club, 4-H leader, and was active in the Bonilla Presbyterian Church. She became the “mom” to anyone that worked on the farm which included over 40 trainees from more than 15 different countries.
In July of 2013, the progression of her Parkinson’s disease necessitated Herb and Alice moving to Huron where she met Annie’s angels who cared for her 24/7 until her passing. She continued to fight to attend her grandchildren’s events and we enjoyed seeing her smile/smirk.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her aunt.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Herb of Huron; two sons and their wives, Scott and Paula Hamilton of Hitchcock, and Jeff and Suzanne Hamilton of Wessington; and seven grandchildren, Nicole (fiance’ Andrew Roth), April, Grant, Kyle, John, Mark, and Kate Hamilton.
A memorial has been established in Alice’s name.
