All-Stars earn third straight victory against Mitchell

MITCHELL — The Huron All-Stars closed the regular season with a 7-2 victory against Mitchell on Saturday. It was the team’s third straight win and fourth in the last five games.

After Mitchell scored two of the three goals in the opening period, the All-Stars put together six unanswered goals in the final two periods to secure the win.

Grady Bott had the goal for Huron in the first period on a pass from Izaiah Phillips.

Phillips then scored the first of his four goals in the game to open the scoring in the second period on an unassisted shot during a power play to pull the All-Stars even at 2-2.

Rei Hoops put Huron out in front with a power play goal later in the second period. He was assisted on the play by Cody Ruedebusch and Tanner Berquist.

With a 3-2 advantage heading into the final period, the All-Stars started to stretch its advantage less than two minutes into the third period. Phillips scored on a pass from Ruedebusch.

Bott netted his second goal of the game to make it 5-2. Connor McCloud and Hoops assisted on the play.

The final two goals for the All-Stars came on power plays and both were by Phillips to earn him the hat trick.

The first was unassisted, while the second came on a pass from Hoops.

Cooper Letcher stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced in the net for Huron to earn the win.

The All-Stars will now be off until the Varsity State Hockey Tournament, which is scheduled for March 12-14 in Sioux Falls.

Mitchell scored three goals in the second period en route to a 5-1 victory Saturday against the Huron All-Stars.

Connor McCloud had the lone goal for the All-Stars on an unassisted shot to open the scoring in the second period.

Kasse Brecken had 16 saves in the goal for Huron.
