HURON — Ann Fischer, 91, of Huron, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2020, at Avantara - Huron.
A private graveside service will be held in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.
Ann R. Fischer was born November 25, 1928, to Christoph and Pauline (Stadel) Wiedmeier in Campbell County, S.D. She grew up on the family farm, and after graduation from Herreid High School, she taught at a country school in Campbell County.
She married Elmer Fischer on July 8, 1947, in Aberdeen. They lived on a farm by Artas until the fall of 1952 when they moved to Huron. They enjoyed 36 years of marriage. Ann was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Huron where she was active in the women’s auxiliary.
For many years Ann was employed as a cook for Huron Public Schools and at Kmart. After retirement she kept busy traveling to Europe, Hawaii, New England, and numerous other states. In addition to traveling, she passed out samples at Coborn’s, Fair City Foods, Kmart, and Walmart plus helped out at NAPA Auto Parts. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and being with people; she participated in card clubs and volunteered at the Huron Senior Citizen Center.
Ann cherished the time she spent with her family. Her two beloved grandchildren were a great blessing to her. She loved attending their activities.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Jeff (Nancy) Fischer of Lincoln Neb.; Joel Fischer of Huron, and Robin (Jim) Zeisler of Renner; grandchildren, Heather (Josh) Doran of Buena Vista, Colo., and Logan (special friend, Megan Aadland) Zeisler of Pierre; sister, Delphia Van Vugt of Huron; specials friends, Jan Smidt and Joyce Borah of Huron, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her parents; sisters, Hilda Klein, Martha Trautman, Emilia Ackerman, and Veryl Wiedmeier; and brothers, Fred Bauer and Andrew Wiedmeier.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church, 1420 McClellan Dr., Huron S.D. 57350.
