PIERRE — Anna (Hofer) Bartel departed this earth into the arms of her Savior January 29, 2018, of natural causes at the age of 90.
Her funeral service will be held at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron, Monday, February 5, at 10:30 a.m. with a luncheon immediately following the funeral. Interment will be in St John’s Lutheran Cemetery at Wolsey. Visitation with the family present will be  Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. with a prayer service at 3 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home in Huron.
Anna was born August 19, 1927, to John E.  and Susie (Wipf) Hofer. Known to her five siblings as Annie, she was number four of six children born to John and Susie Hofer.
On August 18, 1951, Anna and John W. Bartel were married in the St John Lutheran Church in Wolsey. To this union were born three rambunctious sons. The family lived in the Wolsey area until moving to Huron around 1961. Anna had a wonderful career as the Director of Housekeeping and Laundry at the Huron Hospital where she worked for over 35 years.
Anna loved the Lord and her family in that order. She was a member of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church until she moved to Pierre to be near family in 2005. While in Huron she was active with church activities and rarely missed a service. Anna was a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church for the past 13 years. Anna loved to read the Portals of Prayer and would often travel with her copy. She displayed a wonderful example of faith for her family.
She loved her family. Her three sons, her daughter-in-laws, her 10 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. She always remembered them with birthday cards and even though in these later years she was on a very limited income, she insisted on including money in every card. At least for the youngest ones. She loved to hold and squeeze those grandbabies, sometimes until they squirmed to get loose! She always shared her love. Hugging and kissing anyone who would allow it and telling them she loved them. Anna was a very special woman loved by many and will be missed by many.
Anna is survived by her sons, John (Velda) of Pierre, Eugene (Marie) of Torrington, Wyo., and Larry (Linda) of Glasgow, Mont.; grandchildren, Jeremy (Regan), Michelle (Chad), Kristy (Darren), Troy (Jennesi), Kelsey (Kaleb), Stacey (Eric), Katie (Christopher), and Ty (Laura); along with 20 precious great-grandchildren. Anna is also survived by her brother, Melroy (Liz) Hofer of Springfield;  and her sister, Rosie (Darrel) Dietrich of Aurora, Colo.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, Ruth and Vivian; her brother, Eli; her husband, John; and two grandsons, John Edward, and Tanner Jon.
