HURON — Anna M. Middaugh, 89, of Huron, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her Celebration of Life was held, Monday, December 14, at Living Hope Alliance Church.

Anna M. Miller was born January 28, 1931, to Al Joe and Anna Matilda (Osterloo) Miller at Lennox.

She grew up on a farm near Lennox and graduated from Lennox High School with honors in 1948. Ann studied accounting at Huron College. She was the secretary/receptionist at the St. John’s School of Nursing, where she enjoyed interacting with the student nurses and staff. She was also a bookkeeper for The Habicht’s Store, the business manager for the Forestburg School, and the bookkeeper/receptionist for the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks for seventeen years. For her last position, she learned the Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, where she developed complex formulas to manage the contracts for the wildlife set-aside plots.

In February 1951, Ann married Lyle Newman. They moved to a farm southeast of Huron, where they raised their four children.

On September 14, 1991, Ann married Harold Middaugh at Huron. They enjoyed their retirement years together, traveling, taking bus trips, attending concerts and going out to eat.

Ann enjoyed reading devotionals like Jesus Calling, Christian novels on her Kindle, working on the computer, bible study and watching game shows like Wheel of Fortune and Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader.

She kept busy with the academics, music and sports activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who she was so proud of their many accomplishments. Ann loved flowers of all kinds, especially hibiscus; and she enjoyed watching the cardinals visiting her yard. She was a member of the Living Hope Alliance Church and was encouraged by the messages, which she continued to watch on her computer during 2020.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Steven Newman of Huron; three daughters, Julie and Kevin Uttecht of Huron, Anita Newman of Chino Hills, Calif., and Carol and William Larsen of Wolsey; two step-sons, David Middaugh of Chippewa Falls, Wis., and Randall (Peggy) Thornton of Grand Junction, Colo.; one step-daughter, Cheryl of Plano, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy (Rachel) Uttecht, Kelly (Lacey) Uttecht, Kyle (Corinn) Uttecht, Jayme Uttecht, Melissa (Jason) Hoffman, Stephanie (Andrew) McKinney, Natalie Jensen, Megan (Carson) Hofer, Matthew Larsen and Madelyn Larsen; 17 great-grandchildren, Lydia, Jonathan, Matthew, Timothy and Rebecca Hoffman, and Karter, Laken, Lexiny, Kaprice, Kaylee, Hudson, Walker, Addison, Weston, Leanna, Jaxon and Jerrah Uttecht; and two sisters, Evelyn Holley of Rockford, Ill., and Sally Hyronimus of Sioux Falls.
