DE SMET — The fifth-rated De Smet Bulldogs got all the points they would need in the first quarter Thursday night, as they held an 18-0 lead after the first period, en route to a 50-15 win over the Lake Preston Divers in girls’ basketball.

Kennadi Buchholz scored 12 points, while Camryn Schmidt and Mirra Beck each added nine points as De Smet pushed its season record to a perfect 10-0.

Lake Preston, which falls to 4-5 with the loss, was led by Marissa Rober’s six points.

The Bulldogs host Hamlin on Tuesday.

De Smet 59, Howard 38

HOWARD — De Smet, which is the top-ranked team in Class B, handed Howard just its second loss of the season with a 59-38 win on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs, who improved to 8-1, led 10-9 after the first quarter and 38-20 at the half.

Kalen Garry had 21 points to lead three players in double figures for the Bulldogs. Rett Osthus had 18 points, while Damon Wilkinson had 10 points  and Tory Holland added seven points.

Wilkinson also had nine rebounds and four steals for De Smet.

Blake Van Regenmorter and Kadyn Fast each tallied three assists.

Kolt Koepsell was the lone player to reach double figures for Howard with 10 points. Brayden Hinker and Ryder Erickson each had seven points, while Jace Sifore added six points.

Sifore also had nine steals and two assists for the Tigers, who are now 5-2.

De Smet hosts Lake Preston today, while Howard is off until it travels to play Hanson on Tuesday.

TULARE – The Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots used a strong third quarter to overcome a halftime deficit and come out with a 54-49 victory over the Warner Monarchs on Tuesday.

The victory moves the Patriots to 3-3 while Warner drops to 5-4 on the year.

Hitchcock-Tulare was led by Jackson Maynard with 17 points. Kyle Hamilton added 15 points and Zach Gilbert 10 for the Patriots.

Peyton Jung tossed in 15 points for the Monarchs while Hunter Cramer added 11 points and Ashton Schuchhardt tipped in 10.

The Patriots will open the 281 Conference Tournament Saturday against Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in Wolsey.
