Area basketball players compete in All-Star Games

SIOUX FALLS — Wolsey-Wessington’s Bennett White was selected as the Class B Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Assocition during the SDBCA All-Stars Games, which were held Sunday at the Sanford Pentagon.
White had nine points and seven rebounds for the White team, which outscored the Navy team 49-36 in the second half to erase a 39-26 deficit at the break and force overtime. Navy came up with four points in overtime to secure a 79-77 victory.
Seth Friesz of Chamberlain had 17 points to lead three players in double figures for the Navy team. Josh Mohs of Brookings and Jesse Kreutzfeldt of Chester Area added 14 and 12 points, respectively, while Matt Cartwright of Sioux Falls O’Gorman and Robert Rosenquist each had nine points. Hyland Heinz of Huron had two points for the winning team.
Cooper Williams and Friesz each had eight rebounds for the Navy team.
Mason Archambault of Rapid City Stevens had a game-high 18 points for the White team. Also reaching double figures were DeJay Fykstra of Sioux Falls Christian with 12 points, Ethan Freidel of Tea Area with 11 points and Mason Leighton of Madison with 10 points.
Micah Hoellein of Warner snagged 10 rebounds to lead the White team on the boards, while Leighton had five steals.

Sanborn Central-Woonsocket’s Myah Selland had 11 points and eight rebounds to help the White team to an 86-62 victory against the Navy team during the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Basketball Games on Sunday at the Sanford Pentagon.
Selland was one of three players to reach double figures for the White, which led 42-32 at the half.
Josie Clemens of Northwestern finished with 17 points and nine rebounds to lead the White team, while Abby Johnson of Rapid City Central had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The White team held a 54-35 advantage on the boards. Karlee McKinney Tea Area and Tahia Mitzel of Sioux Falls Roosevelt each had four assists, while Hailey Rithmiller of Webster had a team-high six steals.
Sebastian Akoi of Sioux Falls O’Gorman had 19 points to lead the Navy team, while Sydney Rosinsky of Sioux Falls Lincoln added 13 points and Erica Sage of Freeman had eight points. Shannon Poppen of De Smet had four points for the Navy team.
Akoi and Anna Brecht of Sioux Falls Lincoln each had six rebounds, while Chloe Lamb of Sully Buttes had five assists. Akoi also had six blocks and a pair of steals, while Lamb and Sage each had two steals.
