Avon 38, Hitchcock-Tulare 14
AVON - The top-seeded Avon Pirates built up a 38-0 lead before closing out with a 38-14 victory over the defending champion Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots in Class 9B quarterfinal action Thursday in Avon.

Avon moves to 8-2 and will host a semifinal game against De Smet Friday. Running back Aziah Meyer scored four touchdowns and ran for four 2-pt conversions. The Pirates tallied 265 yards on the ground as a team.

The Patriots finish with a 5-5 record. Erik Salmen ran six times for 23 yards and was 2 of 4 passing for 21 yards. Salmen also led H-T with eight solo tackles. Derek Johnson ran twice for 55 yards.

Peyton Chasing Hawk ran twice for three yards and a touchdown and also caught a 56-yard touchdown pass. Brendan Nowell had six solo tackles for the Patriots.
