Sunshine Bible Academy 40, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 31
MILLER — The Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders broke into the win column Friday, with a come-from-behind 40-31 win over the Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Raiders.
The Raiders jumped out to a 23-0 lead as Brock Eppe scored on a pair of 28-yard runs - one in both the first and second quarters - and Boyd Pooler scooped up a fumble and returned it 57-yards for a score with three minutes left in the first half.
SBA regrouped and scored on the final play of the first half on a Trey Thieman 16-yard pass to Jimmy Burma, with a Troy Paul conversion run.
After a first half dominated by ORR, the Crusaders took charge in the third quarter. A Thieman one-yard plunge capped a drive and cut the score to 23-16 with 8:14 to play in the third. A Raider turnover gave the ball back to SBA and Burma collected a 15-yard pass from Thieman. Paul ran in his third conversion of the game for a Crusader lead and Thieman added to the lead with a two-yard run at the 4:51 mark that made the lead 32-23 after yet another Paul conversion.
ORR regrouped and scored early in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to a single point, at 32-31, but SBA struck back quickly, as Paul rumbled 75 yards to paydirt with just over 10 minutes to play that made the final margin 40-31.
Paul ended the game with 216 yards on the ground on 28 carries and Tieman ended 5/10 for 75 yards and two scores for the Crusaders, who ended with 336 yards in offense.
Cooper Merager led the Raiders with 162 yards rushing and also went 5/9 for 31 yards through the air.
Paul added nine tackles for Sunshine, which caused three turnovers in the game.
Sunshine Bible, now 1-7, will close the season Friday night at Potter County. Oldham-Ramona/Rutland falls to 0-7.
