De Smet 14, Wolsey-Wessington 6
DE SMET - In a clash of two area ranked teams, defense won the day, with the De Smet Bulldogs defeating the Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds 14-6 Friday at Wilkinson Field in De Smet.
The Bulldogs, ranked second in the most recent Class “9B” poll, move to 4-1 behind a strong defensive effort, keyed by Gannon Gilligan’s 13 tackles. Slayten Wilkinson added 12 tackles.
Offensively, Britt Carlson scored twice for De Smet, going 4 of 8 passing for 51 yards and a score while rushing for 45 yards and a touchdown. Tom Aughenbaugh accounted for all the team’s receiving yards, 51, on three catches, one of which was a touchdown.
The Warbirds fall to 3-2. Wolsey-Wessington, ranked third in Class 9A, was led by Caleb Richmond with 94 yards through the air and 89 yards on the ground. Moshe Richmond caught 69 yards worth of passes and rushed for 41 yards and a score.
The Warbirds host Colman-Egan Friday. De Smet is off until Sept. 29, when they travel to Arlington.
Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central 41, Miller/Highmore-Harrold 0
MILLER - The Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks spoiled homecoming for the Miller/Highmore-Harrold Rustlers 41-0 Friday at Bob Schroeder Field in Miller.
The Blackhawks move to 4-0 behind 204 yards passing from Holden Havlik on 12 of 18 passing with four touchdowns and an interception. Havlik also ran for 67 yards on four carries along with a score.
Ryder Michalek grabbed six balls for 128 yards to lead the Wessington Springs receiving corps. Brock Krueger caught three passes for 90 yards and two touchdowns while Blake Larson grabbed four passes for 29 yards and a score while also passing for a touchdown on 2 of 3 passing and 45 yards.
Caleb Kneed had a pair of sacks and four tackles total to lead the Blackhawk defense.
The Rustlers (2-3) travel to Hill City Friday while the Blackhawks will host Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian in Wessington Springs.

Parker 18, Clark/Willow Lake 12.
PARKER - The Parker Pheasants came away with an 18-12 victory Friday over the Clark/Willow Lake Cyclones in Parker.
Parker moved to 2-3 behind the connection of quarterback Landon Wieman and receiver Ray Travnicek. Wieman passed for 140 yards on 11 of 21 passing with a pair of touchdowns and a pair of interceptions while also gaining 34 yards on the ground. Travnicek caught five passes for 122 yards and ran for 10 yards.
The Cyclones (1-4) were led by quarterback Emmerson Larson, who went 10 of 24 passing for 108 yards and a touchdown while also leading the team with 25 yards rushing.
The Cyclones host Mobridge-Pollock for homecoming in Clark on Friday.
Avon 32, Hitchcock-Tulare 28
AVON - In a matchup of ranked squads, the Class “9B” fourth-ranked Avon Pirates held on for a 32-28 victory over the 9B third-ranked Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots Friday in Avon.
The Patriots opened scoring on a 67-yard run by Erik Salmen, but coming into the fourth quarter, Avon held a 26-12 lead. The Patriots scored twice in the final period to briefly take a 28-26 lead before Avon running back
Noah Watchorn scored from two yards out to give Avon its final score.
The Pirates move to 4-1 behind a pair of touchdowns from Aziah Meyer.
The Patriots (3-2) were led by three scores by Salmen, two rushing and one receiving as well as a 2-pt conversion run.
Hitchcock-Tulare travels to Sunshine Bible Academy Friday.
