Area teams win in Region 3B

DE SMET — Three area volleyball teams opened postseason play with victories in the Region 3B Tournament on Monday in De Smet.
Ninth-seeded James Valley Christian got past eighth-seeded De Smet with set scores of 27-25, 25-14 and 26-24.
Bekah Williams sparked the Lady Vikings with four aces on 17 of 20 serving. She also had a team-high 10 kills on 17-20 hits and recorded 20 assists on 47 of 53 sets.

Angelina Zuccaro was 8 of 10 serving for JVC, while Kerstyn Fast was 7 of 8 serving with two aces and Brenna Held was perfect on six serves with an ace.
Zuccaro also had eight kills for the Lady Vikings, while Julia Blom and Held each added seven kills. Allison Blom had a team-high  17 digs, while Zuccaro had 14 digs and Williams added nine digs.
No statistics were available for De Smet.
James Valley Christian advances to face top-seeded Arlington in the quarterfinal at 7:15 p.m. today in Arlington. The match will follow a 6 p.m. match between fourth-seeded Hitchcock-Tulare and fifth-seeded Castlewood.
In other Region 3B matches Monday in De Smet, seventh-seeded Wessington Springs defeated No. 10 Lake Preston with set scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-12, and sixth-seeded Wolsey-Wessington defeated No. 11 Iroquois with set scores of 25-9, 25-16 and 25-18.
Wolsey-Wessington will face third-seed Estelline/Hendricks in White at 6 p.m. today, followed by a match between Wessington Springs and No. 2 Deubrook Area.
