Northwestern 3, Wolsey-Wessington 1
WOLSEY — Northwestern, which was ranked No. 3 in the Class B preseason volleyball poll, got past Wolsey-Wessington 3-1 on Thursday.

The Wildcats built a 2-0 lead in the match with back-to-back 25-21 set wins. Wolsey-Wessington avoided the sweep with a 25-13 win in the third set, but Northwestern rebounded with a 25-23 win in the fourth set to end the match.

Ashley Haven sparked the Wildcats with 15 kills, while Payton Grandpre had 10 kills. Haven was also 15 of 15 serving with an ace, while Taylor Vetter was 15 of 16 with an ace and Sophia Torske was 14 of 15 with an ace.

Ella Boekelheide led Northwestern with 31 assists and 22 digs. Granpre and Vetter tallied 18 and 16 digs, respectively.

The Lady Warbirds, who are now 1-1, were led by Kailynn Dorris with 21 kills. Tatum Luce had 11 kills, while Lainey Uttecht added six kills.

Lainey Uttecht was 20 of 21 serving with an ace, while Shae Uttecht was 14 of 14 with two aces and Kendal Uttecht was 13 of 14 with an ace.

Payton Kemnitz had a team-high 17 assists for Wolsey-Wessington, while Kendal Uttecht had 14 assists. Lainey Uttecht and Shae Uttecht finished with 29 and 22 digs, respectively, and Luce had eight blocks.

Wolsey-Wessington will host top-ranked Warner on Tuesday, while Northwestern is at the Huron Invitational today.

Castlewood 3, Hitchcock-Tulare 0
TULARE — Castlewood, which is one of the top teams in Class B, recorded a sweep against Hitchcock-Tulare on Thursday night.

The Warriors used set scores of 25-22, 25-17 and 26-24 to win the match.

Katelyn Schroeder led the Lady Patriots with nine kills on 26 of 31 attacks, while Ella Johnson had six kills on 24 of 28 spikes.

Johnson also had five aces on 15 of 16 serving for Hitchcock-Tulare, which is now 0-1. Cambree Hoekman was 9 of 11 serving with a pair of aces.

Gracyn Bixler was perfect on 52 sets and had 11 assists for the Lady Patriots, while Lila Johnson was 22 of 22 setting with five assists.

Defensively, Schroeder and Ella Johnson finished with 12 and 11 digs, respectively. Isabel Gilber had a pair of assisted blocks.

Hitchcock-Tulare will be at the Redhawk Tournament in Estelline today.

Miller 3, Winner 1
WINNER — After dropping the opening set, Miller rallied for a 3-1 victory against Winner on Thursday.

Winner won the first set 25-20, but the Rustlers answered with set wins of 27-25, 25-18 and 25-23 to win the match.

Heather Resel had a pair of aces on 5 of 7 serving for Miller, while Journey Palmer was 15 of 15 with an ace and Cassi VanDerWerff was 6 of 7 with an ace. Joanlei Baker was 20 of 23 serving and tallied a team-high 16 points.

Aleah Schlechter and Paige Werdel each had 12 kills for the Rustlers. Schlechter was 36 of 40 attacking, while Werdel was 30 of 39.

Gracen Werdel added nine kills on 23 of 30 hits, while Shaylee Anderberg was 30 of 39 with eight kills.

Olivia Resel was 86 of 86 setting with 24 assists for Miller, while Heather Resel was 74 of 76 with 18 assists.

Jolie Palmer recorded 36 digs for the Rustlers, while Anderberg and Baker had 14 and 13 digs, respectively.

Miller, which is now 2-0, travels to face Aberdeen Roncalli on Tuesday.

Arlington 3, Iroquois/Lake Preston 0
IROQUOIS — Arlington used set scores of 25-19, 25-11 and 26-24 to earn its first win of the season on Thursday against Iroquois/Lake Preston.

Addie Steffensen tallied 16 kills to lead the Cardinals, who are now 1-1. Harley Johnson had 11 kills and a team-high 15 digs.

Jo Steffensen recorded four aces for Arlington, while Issie Steffensen had 28 assists.

Adison Moore and Hadlee Holt finished with six and four kills, respectively, for Iroquois/Lake Preston. Moore also had 13 digs, while Chenoa Harris had 12 digs.

Rebecca Bich had 13 assists for the Sharks, who are now 0-2, while Kera Dubro had an ace serve and Holt and Faith Steffensen had eight and three blocks, respectively.

Iroquois/Lake Preston will travel to play Wessington Spirngs on Tuesday.
