Wolsey-Wessington 3, James Valley Christian 1
WOLSEY – The Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds defeated the James Valley Christian Lady Vikings 3-1 Tuesday in Wolsey.

Set scores for the Lady Warbirds were 25-13, 25-21, 23-25, and 25-11.

Wolsey-Wessington picks up its 10th victory, now at 10-1. Mya Boomsma led the Lady Warbirds with 21 kills. She added 25 digs as well.

Lainey Uttecht led the Wolsey-Wessington defense with 26 digs while Macie Luce set up the offense with 18 assists. Kailyn Dorris and Leah Williams added 12 and 10 kills, respectively.

The Lady Vikings fell to 1-9. Karilyn Wieting posted 20 assists while Jolie Dowling led JVC with eight kills.

The Lady Vikings host the JVC Tournament Saturday while the Lady Warbirds host Lake Preston Monday.

Redfield 3, Britton-Hecla 0
REDFIELD — The Redfield Pheasants volleyball squad improved to 9-4 Thursday night, with a dominating 3-0 win over the Britton-Hecla Braves in non-conference action. Set scores for the Pheasants were 25-10, 25-20 and 25-23.

Redfield was led by Gracie Fast’s nine kills, While Katie Rozell added six and had a block/kill. Camryn Rohlfs had 20 assists in the match, while Denae Paulsen had four aces and nine digs.

The Braves to eight kills from Jenna Werner, while Chloe Furman had seven assists and Jayden Bender accounted for five digs in the match.

Redfield hosts Northwestern on Tuesday.

Wessington Springs 3, Lower Brule 0
WESSINGTON SPRINGS – The Wessington Springs Spartans ran their season record to 7-4 with a three-set sweep of the Lower Brule Lady Sioux by scores of 25-10, 25-11, and 25-21.

Carissa Scheel had six aces from the service line and led the Spartans with four blocks. Alyssa Grohs set up the Spartan offense with 21 assists and also had three service aces.

Avery Orth and Sarah Poncelow led the Wessington Springs hitting attack with eight kills apiece.

No individual statistics were available for Lower Brule.

The Spartans swept the JV match 25-7 and 28-26.

Wessington Springs travels Saturday to Kimball for the Kimball/White Lake Tournament.

Wolsey-Wessington 3, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 1
FORESTBURG – The Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds, who fell from No. 1 to No. 3 in this week’s Class “B” poll, bounced back from their first loss of the season to defeat the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackbirds in four sets on Tuesday in Forestburg in 281 Conference action.

Set scores were 15-25, 27-25, 25-18, and 25-20 for the Lady Warbirds.

Wolsey-Wessington moves to 9-1 behind a strong effort from Mya Boomsma, who led the Lady Warbird hitting with 22 kills while also tallying a pair of service aces and 22 digs.

Leah Williams and Kailynn Dorris each added 12 kills. Dorris led the team with six blocks. Hailey Clarke set up the Wolsey-Wessington offense with 27 assists and Lainey Uttecht led the defense with 24 digs.

The Blackhawks fell to 11-3 on the season despite a strong game from Trista White, who recorded 16 kills, four aces, and 17 digs on the evening. Teya Moody cued the SCW offense with 24 assists and also led the team with 18 digs.

The Lady Warbirds host Lake Preston Monday while the Blackhawks host Highmore-Harrold at Woonsocket Tuesday.

Aberdeen Christian 3, Wolsey-Wessington 2
WOLSEY - Top-ranked and previously unbeaten Wolsey-Wessington fell in five sets to the Aberdeen Christian Knights Thursday, Sept. 16.

The Knights took the first two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-19 before the Lady Warbirds won the next two sets by identical 25-20 scores. The Knights, however, won the final set 15-11 to record the victory.

Aberdeen Christian moves to 6-1 with the victory behind 17 kills from Mary Fites. Kaylee Block set up the Knights offense with 36 assists and also tallied three service aces and 14 digs.

Joy Rohrback led the Aberdeen Christian defense with 32 digs. Hanna Miller added 13 kills.

Wolsey-Wessington falls to 8-1 despite a big hitting game from Mya Boomsma with 27 kills. Boomsma also led the Lady Warbirds with 25 digs.

Leah Williams contributed 13 kills and 18 digs while Kailynn Dorris added 10 kills and seven blocks for Wolsey-Wessington.

De Smet 3, JVC 0
DE SMET — Using set scores of 25-9, 26-24 and 25-13, De Smet recorded a sweep against James Valley Christian on Tuesday.

Kennadi Buchholz recorded 15 of the 33 kills in the match and had nine blocks for the Lady Bulldogs. Jada Burke had eight kills, while Cori Birkel had five kills.

Emma Albrecht and Katelyn Halverson eiach had 10 assists and finished with two and three aces, respectively, for De Smet, which is now 8-6. Birkel and Burke each had seven digs, while Ella Poppinga had six digs.

Brenna Held led JVC with seven kills and two aces. Karilyn Wieting and Colleen Wipf each had an ace.

Wieting also led the Lady Vikings (0-8) in assists, while Jolie Dowling and Lily Hofer were the block leaders.

Clark/Willow Lake 3, Lake Preston 1
WILLOW LAKE — After dropping the opening set, Clark/Willow Lake rallied for a 3-1 win against Lake Preston on Tuesday. The set scores were 21-25, 25-13, 25-21 and 25-15.

Sara Thonvold led the Cyclones with 10 kills, while Shay Michalski had seven kills and Macy Steen added five kills. Logan Hurlbert led the way with four aces and 72 sets, while Emmah Mitchel had three aces and Summer Seefeldt had two aces.

Seefeldt also had a team-high 34 digs for Clark/Willow Lake, while Thonvold and Steen had 32 and 28 digs, respectively. Michalski had nine blocks, while Haylee Tormannen had eight blocks.

Faith Stffensen had seven kills and 11 assists for Lake Preston. Annika Nelson had four kills and two blocks.

Jocelyn Steffensen tallied 11 assists for the Divers, while Kate Reis and Ava Malone each had an ace. 

Malone also had 18 digs, while Nelson and Jocelyn Steffensen had 17 and 16 digs, respectively.

Faulkton Area 3, Highmore-Harrold 1
HIGHMORE — The Highmore-Harrold Pirates got pounded the first two set, came back to win set three, but ultimately lost the fourth Tuesday night, falling to the visiting Faulkton Area Trojans in non-conference volleyball action.

Set scores for the Trojans were 25-10, 25-10, 24-26, 25-20.

Letha Jessen notched 11 kills, one block and one block assist for the Pirates, who fall to 8-4 with the loss. Gracy Knox had six kills, Courtney Moser handed out 19 assists and also led the defense with 15 digs in the match.

For Faulkton Area, which improves to 9-4, Isabel Aesoph scorched the Pirates for 23 kills, had four aces and 24 digs, while Shayna Heitmann recored 18 kills and Addison Melius chipped in 15 kills and had 20 digs. Cameryn Deiter had 32 assists and  Gabby Kast tallied 26 assists.

Highmore-Harrold opens play in the Central South Dakota Conference tournament on Saturday, in Onida.
