Pentagon Volleyball Tournament
SIOUX FALLS — The Huron Tiger volleyball team defeated O’Gorman Saturday at the Pentagon Volleyball Tournament, but lost its other four matches, including two the two teams that played for the title in their division.

Huron lost its opening match to the undefeated and defending Class “B” Champion Warner Monarchs - 25-15 and 25-11, before dropping a 25-14, 25-16 decision to the defending Class “A” Champion Sioux Falls Christian Chargers. Huron fell to Dell Rapids in a tight 25-22 and 25-12 match, then recovered to come from behind and down O’Gorman 16-25, 25-20  and 25-21, before wrapping up the day with a 26-24, 25-15 to Chester Area.

Warner defeated Sioux Falls Christian 25-15 and 25-22 for the Blue Division title on Saturday. The Tigers, now 8-8 on the season, travel to Sioux Falls Washington on Tuesday to take on the Warriors.

Hitchcock-Tulare goes 3-1

The Hitchcock-Tulare Lady Patriots ran through pool play undefeated Saturday in their division of the Pentagon Volleyball Tournament.

The Lady Pats dispatched Hanson 25-9, 25-21, defeated Canistota 25-20 and 25-16, then downed Webster Area 25-1, 27-25 in pool play, before falling to Ethan 25-22, 25-19 in a semifinal matchup.

Katelyn Schroeder led Hitchcock-Tulare, now 15-4, with 28 kills and 29 digs in four matches, while Lila Johnson had 44 assists and added six aces. Schroeder went past 1,000 career digs at the tournament.

The Lady Patriots host Sunshine Bible Academy Tuesday in Hitchcock.

Wessington Springs Tournament
WESSINGTON SPRINGS — The Northwestern Wildcats didn’t drop a set on Saturday, en route to the team title at the Wessington Springs Tournament.

The Wildcats, who emerged from the tournament with a record of 18-5, opened play with a 25-12, 25-13 win over Deubrook Area, and followed that with a 25-6, 25-11 pounding of Colome.

The tournament semifinals found Northwestern drubbing Tiospa Zina 25-7 and 25-2, before downing host Wessington Springs 25-11 and 25-14 for the title.

On the day, Ashley Haven collected 44 kills, while Ella Boekelheide had 10 aces and 76 kill assists.

No further information was available on Wessington Springs’ other matches at the tournament.

Lady Warbirds win CSDC

FAULKTON — The Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds held off the Miller Rustlers 2-1 to take the championship at the Central South Dakota Conference Tournament on Saturday.

The Lady ‘Birds persevered 21-25, 25-19 and 25-23 in the championship match.

Wolsey-Wessington defeated the host Faulkton Area 25-20, 25-20 and handled Highmore-Harrold 25-15, 25-11 to move to the title game.

Highmore-Harrold defeated Sunshine Bible Academy 25-0, 25-18 and lost to Faulkton Area 25-18, 25-10.

Miller was led by Shaylee Anderberg’s nine kills, while both Aleah Schlechter and Paige Werdel added seven kills. Heather Resel had 28 set assists in the title match and Jolie Palmer had a pair of aces.

In the opening round, Miller downed Potter County 25-13, 25-23 and defeated Sully Buttes 25-18, 25-16 in the semifinal round.
