HURON — As the state closes out the first week of the new year, the Thursday numbers from the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) showed active cases declining throughout the state and region.
The state added 1,056 new positive cases between Wednesday and Thursday along with 31 new deaths. The active cases in the state are currently at 6,075.
Beadle County added 10 new positive over the two-day period along with five new recovered cases and one new death. Active cases in the county are at 79.
The new death in Beadle announced in the Thursday DOH numbers is the third of the year in the county and the 38th overall.
Hand County also added a new death Thursday, its third overall.
The Heartland Region moved past 5,000 total positive cases across the seven-county region on Wednesday. After Thursday’s numbers from DOH, the region reports 5,011 total positive cases.
There are currently 198 active cases in the region.
