HURON — Active hospitalizations across the state jumped significantly in Tuesday’s numbers, and Heartland counties recorded two new virus-related deaths in the South Dakota Department of Health’s (DOH) COVID-19 numbers.
South Dakota reported 621 new positive cases, 561 new recovered cases, and seven new deaths in Tuesday’s DOH numbers. The state reports 8,441 active cases.
Tuesday’s numbers also included an additional 47 that had ever been hospitalized due to COVID across the state, bringing that total to 2,193. There are currently 329 in the hospital due to the virus, an increase of 25 since Monday, the largest one-day increase since current hospitalizations have been made public.
Beadle County added three new positive cases and 14 new recovered cases on Tuesday, which allowed the active cases in the county to drop to 189.
The county did add one new death, bringing the total deaths in Beadle due to the virus to 13. The county also added its 40th hospitalization and now has eight county residents in the hospital due to COVID-19 complications.
The seven-county Heartland region reported 14 new positive cases in the DOH’s Tuesday numbers. However, the region also recorded two new deaths, the one in Beadle and one new death in Kingsbury County. The region added three currently hospitalized and currently reports 13 region residents in hospitals due to COVID-19 complications.
The Heartland currently has 396 active virus cases.
