HURON — The numbers released by the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) noted a large increase in hospitalizations across the state, and Beadle County reached the highest number of currently hospitalized due to the virus that the county has reported.
The state numbers from DOH indicated 1,006 new positive cases Tuesday along with 71 new cases of someone being seen in the hospital due to COVID-19. Those who are currently staying in the hospital due to complications from the virus went up by 22 to 582 in the state.
The state’s active virus cases went up by 485 on the day to 18,624, or an equivalent of 2.1% of the state’s population currently active with the virus.
Beadle County added 33 new positive cases in Tuesday’s DOH numbers along with 22 new recovered cases to see the active cases in the county move to 570, or 3.1% of the county’s residents active with COVID-19.
The county saw two new currently hospitalized added Tuesday, which brought the overall total of Beadle County residents currently hospitalized due to complications from COVID-19 to eight, which is the most that have been actively hospitalized on any single day during the pandemic to this point.
The Heartland Region saw 65 new positive cases across the seven counties, with active cases moving up to 1,149, or 2.8% of the region’s residents.
