HURON — The state added 617 new cases and reached a new single-day record in active cases on Sunday. After the South Dakota Department of Health’s (DOH) Sunday numbers, the state reports 5,865 active cases.
The state’s death toll over the weekend rose to 286 total. That brings the month total to 63, which makes October already the deadliest month of the pandemic, as the previous high was 56 in September.
Beadle County’s numbers over the weekend went up by 39 new positives, reaching 958 total new positives. The county’s split is currently 932 “confirmed” positive cases and 26 antigen positive cases.
The active cases in the county are up to 140. That is the highest active caseload the county has seen since June 14.
The past week in Beadle has added 683 total new cases, the most ever added in one week during the pandemic. Of those 683 new cases, 111, or 16.25%, have been positive cases of the virus. That is the second-most new positive cases in one week for the county.
The Heartland region saw notable increases over the weekend as well. The seven-county region is now up to 1,577 total positive cases, 17 deaths, 86 persons ever hospitalized, and 282 active virus cases. Residents of the region have been tested at a 22.99% rate.
