HURON — After more than 32 weeks of the virus in the state of South Dakota, the state reached a new high in single-day new positive cases with the numbers reported by the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) on Friday. The DOH reported 1,185 new positive cases in the state.

Even with 587 new recovered cases and nine new deaths, the state saw active cases rise to 9,862 across the state. The state now has recorded 356 total virus-related deaths.

Beadle County’s active cases continued to escalate at new peak numbers, rising to 239 with Friday’s DOH numbers after 29 new positive tests were reported.

The Heartland region added 66 new positive cases Friday. Jerauld County added one new death, its seventh. The region currently has 491 active cases of the virus, and six of seven counties in the region are currently experiencing new highs in active cases.
