Beadle County CFEL Fall Council

HURON — The Beadle County Community and Family Extension Leaders Fall Council was held Oct. 16 at the the Senior Center. 
The evening started out with a turkey supper with all the trimmings served by Doug Stevens from the Senior Center.
Garet Ford, MSPAS, PA-C in psychiatry, was the speaker for the evening. He spoke on anxiety and depression, with the title of his speech being, “Mental Health — Clear as Mud.”
He talked about when to seek help, diagnosis, labs, tests, treatment, therapy and prognosis. He allowed time for questions after his talk.
Lois Polfus and Laura Smidt from the BCNU Club gave a history of their club, when it got started, what they do, and the members they have now. 

Laura Smidt is one of the original members of the club. Polfus and Lorene Caviegielli honored Schmidt with a red cardinal wind chime and certificate for all her years of service.
Entertainment was provided by Joe Daniels and Suzanne Hewitt.
Vice president Theresa Horn called the meeting to order. The pledges were led by Laura Smidt, who also gave the treasurers report. Lynn Daniels took roll call of the clubs present, and read the minutes of the Spring Council meeting.
BCNU Club was awarded the Top Club of the Year for 2017, and they reported that the monetary gift they received went to Helping Hands.  BCNU will be decorating the Christmas Tree at the Huron Event Center this year.
The Area IV meeting will be April 11 at the Huron Event Center with a western theme. Everyone was asked to look for western-themed decorations.
Dianne Perry and Deanne Ness gave a report on the State CFEL Convention that Area IV hosted in Huron in September.
Everyone gave favorable comments, and Perry and Ness thanked everyone for all their hard work to make the convention a success.
Perry installed new officers for the coming year —  Theresa Horn will be county president and Suzanne Hewitt will be vice president.
The Spring Council CFEL meeting will be March 12.
The evening concluded with door prizes from the BCNU Club, which hosted the meeting. Birthday cake was served in observance of the club’s 40th birthday.
