Beadle County courthouse to re-open with limited public access on Monday

Posted

HURON – After closing to public access March 18, the Beadle County courthouse will re-open in a limited manner Monday, August 10.

While those coming into the building for court appearances have had to adhere to these regulations for some time, county commissioners approved opening limited public access to the entire courthouse during their July 30 meeting.

Beadle County State’s Attorney Michael Moore clarified that all courthouse departments will be open to the public. That will include the offices of Treasurer, Auditor, Equalization, Register of Deeds, Clerk of Courts, and State’s Attorney.

The courthouse will be open for limited access Monday through Friday, but the hours will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This will allow for daily cleaning and sanitization of the building to be done.

Those who desire to come to the courthouse will need to use the South entrance of the courthouse. At that entrance, there will be a monitor at the door who will check the temperature and ask screening questions of anyone who seeks to enter the building. Masks will also be required of anyone entering the building.

Only those members of the public with business in the courthouse will be allowed into the building. No children or additional persons will be allowed beyond the person with an appointment or business with one of the offices in the courthouse.

While in the courthouse, members of the public will be monitored to ensure they are completing their business within the building and then leaving. Bathrooms will not be open to the public at this time, and the number of people allowed in the courthouse will be limited.

Any courthouse business that can be completed online, through the mail, or on the phone is still strongly encouraged at this time.
