Beadle County posts highest single-day new COVID cases in 90 days

HURON — Friday’s numbers from the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) revealed significant numbers for Beadle County, as the county added 12 new positive cases of COVID-19. That is the first time the county has recorded double-digit new positive cases since June 21, 90 days previous.

The 12 new cases brings the county’s overall total positive cases to 691. Friday’s DOH numbers added five new recovered cases, which meant that the active cases in the county rose by seven to 38.

The state recorded 389 new positive cases, the third-highest number the state has ever recovered in a single-day.

The state also recorded five new deaths to bring the overall total to 198. South Dakota currently has 2,809 active COVID-19 cases.

Across the Heartland region, five of the seven Heartland counties added new positive cases, with each county adding multiple cases. Spink and Jerauld counties each added five new positive cases. Kingsbury County added three new positive cases.

Hand County added two new positive cases and a new hospitalization due to COVID-19.

The Heartland region now has 109 active cases across seven counties.
