HURON — The numbers from the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) Friday left the state just short of a single-day high in new positive cases, but did bring the state to a new high mark in active cases.
The state added 1,489 new positive cases along with 644 new recovered cases. The added positive cases pushed the active cases in the state to 14,426.
The DOH announced 28 new deaths in the state Friday, pushing the overall deaths due to COVID-19 now in the state past the 500 mark to 510. The state currently has 493 residents hospitalized due to complications from the virus.
Beadle County’s numbers from the DOH Friday indicated 34 new positive cases, 11 new recovered cases, and three new deaths in the county. The three new deaths brings the county’s total to 19 claimed by the virus.
Beadle’s active cases went up by 19 on Friday to a new high of 424. That means that 2.3% of the county’s population is currently actively infected with COVID-19.
The Heartland region has seen active cases across the seven-county region jump to 877 after Friday’s numbers. There are currently 11 Heartland residents in the hospital due to virus complications.
