WESSINGTON SPRINGS  — Bernece Rasmussen, 85, of Wessington Springs, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017, at Avera Weskota Manor in Wessington Springs.
A service to celebrate her life will be 1 p.m., Friday, January 5, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m., Thursday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs.
Bernece Winter, daughter of Julius and Carrie (Fastnacht) Winter, was born February 28, 1932, in Jerauld County. She graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1949. Shortly after her graduation, she met Allen Rasmussen, and they were married February 25, 1951. Allen and Bernece lived their entire married life in Wessington Springs and raised their five children, Steve, Debra, Dianne, Randy, and LeAnn. They raised their children to know the Lord, be considerate of others, work hard, and to be a good friend.
Bernece created a home where family and friends were welcome, loved, and most likely served something really good coming out of the oven! Her day began and ended with a devotional and prayer time. Both she and Allen were active in Bible studies, prayer groups, and countless community activities. Many in the community experienced her kindness as she worked in customer service at the local drug store for 30 years.
Bernece had a gift and a passion for music! She sang in various groups, community choirs, and musicals, and she was a member of “The Human Flag” women’s musical ensemble. She was a pianist and choir director at Immanuel Baptist Church for many years.  There was not a music event of her kids’ that she did not attend.
Bernece also had a passion for children, leading Sunday School music for many years and also serving as an AWANA volunteer at church. Even after Allen and Bernece retired, neighborhood children knew there was kindness, a listening ear, and a cookie at the Rasmussens’. And she was a fan of her children’s and grandchildren’s sports teams, as well as being an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
Beloved by many, her husband and children are especially grateful for having shared her life and love. Our greatest consolation is knowing she is fully alive in the presence of her Lord and Savior.
She is survived by her husband, Allen of Wessington Springs; children, Steve (Minna) Rasmussen of Franklin, Tenn., Debra (Dennis) Moritz of Beaver Creek, Minn., Dianne (Jim) Tapken of Huron, Randy (Pat) Rasmussen of Sioux Falls, and LeAnn (Tim) Olson of Jackson, Minn.; brother, Larry (Helen) Winter of Prairie Village, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Loren; and twin grandsons, Patrick and Preston.
