ABERDEEN — Bethel Naomi Schmidt, 96, of Aberdeen, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018, at the Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.  
Her memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 19, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Inurnment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery at Redfield.  
Bethel Naomi Spry was born March 29, 1922, in Wichita, Kan. to John Ernest and Myrtle (Shunk) Spry. The family moved to South Dakota when she was three years old. She graduated from Northville High School in 1940.  
She was united in marriage to Arnold Schmidt September 2, 1941. They lived and farmed in rural Redfield for 51 years. In 1993, they moved to Rapid City before becoming residents of Aberdeen in 2001. She was an officer with the Spink County Historical Society, active in local commemorations of centennial and bi-centennial events in Redfield, and had a special interest in Spink County history and preservation. She was a former member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Redfield where she held various offices in the women’s organizations.  While in Aberdeen, Bethel was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  
She is survived by daughter, Lynelle Jo (Neal) Woolson of Palmetto, Fla.; daughter-in-law Pam Schmidt of Redfield; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law,Fern Schmidt of Redfield.  
She was preceded in death by her husband; and son, Russel.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home.
