ROCHESTER, Minn. — Betty Hammer, 79, of Rochester, Minn., and formerly of Huron, passed away Monday, November 26, 2018, at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester.
Betty Jean Knutz was born February 8, 1939, in Huron to Bill and Lillian (Christensen) Knutz. She graduated from Huron High School with the class of 1957. She took a job with the Dakota Central Telephone Company after graduation, and married Walter Hammer in September of that year; they were later divorced.
Betty was best known for her 25 plus years of working at the Hickory House Motor Inn, most of this time behind the front desk, and later as general manager. She achieved A+ Certification in computer repair, and loved to tinker “under the hood” of her computers.
She loved being raised on the farm in rural Beadle county, and had a soft spot in her heart for animals, little kids, and anyone down on their luck. In 2012, she moved to Cottagewood Senior Communities memory care.
She is survived by her children, Karen (Gary) Seeman of Rochester, Minn., Kevin (Colette) Hammer of Florence, Ala., and Debra (David) Wilson of Bartlesville, Okla.; five grandchildren; seven great-granddaughters; brother, Don (Cheryl) Knutz of Las Vegas, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, June Hammer; brother, Bill Knutz III; son, Michael Hammer; and great-grandson, Christopher Gary Seeman.
