Bragg elected to Huron city commission

Posted

HURON — Huron businessman Rich Bragg defeated Drew Weinreis by 174 votes - 929 to 755 -  in the race for a seat on the Huron City Commission.

The election was made notable by the sheer number of ballots cast via mail and through the absentee process.

Beadle County Auditor Jill Hanson confirmed mid-afternoon on Tuesday that her office had received 2,282 mail-in ballots at that point, “and they are still coming in,” she said.

Bragg will take the seat formerly occupied by Gary Harrington, who will be sworn in as Huron’s mayor at its next commission meeting, at the same time Bragg will take the oath of office.

Harrington was unopposed in his bid for mayor.

Races for the Wolsey-Wessington School Board and for a Trustee for the town of Wessington were undecided as the Plainsman went to press.

Statewide election totals were also not finalized before Plainsman went to press. Complete state and Heartland area results will be posted on plainsman.com Wednesday afternoon and will be published in the Friday edition of the Plainsman.
