Brandon Valley Lynx, S.F. Washington notch Cheer and Dance titles

RAPID CITY — Sioux Falls Washington and Brandon Valley each won two categories in the State “AA” Dance Championships Saturday at Rapid City Stevens High School.
But when the dust settled, it was the Washington Warrior Dance team that earned a repeat Dance title, with a team score of 289.17 to the 283 for Brandon Valley.
Washington won the Hip Hop and Jazz portions of the competition, while Brandon Valley took the Kick and Pom titles. Both of the Brandon Valley wins were by narrow margins, while SFW won handily in its categories.
The Huron Tigers earned a second place finish in Hip Hop, six points behind the winners from Washington, and also earned a third-place finish in Jazz. Huron took 7th in Pom, en route to a fourth-place finish in the team grand championship, a scant six points behind S.F. Roosevelt.

In competition that took place during the day as well, Huron’s Cheer team took 9th place in the team competition, which was won for the second straight year by Brandon Valley. The Lynx eked out a half-point win over S.F. O’Gorman for the title, followed by Harrisburg.
On Friday night, the Class “A” teams took to the floor for their championships.
Dakota Valley took first place in Hip Hop, Jazz, Kick and Pom to steamroll to the team title with an average score of 277. Platte-Geddes was a distant second with 232.8 and Winner Area finished third with 214.83.
Clark-Willow Lake was the lone Heartland area team in the Dance competition, and brought home a 9th place finish.
The Arlington-Lake Preston Badgers won the Small Group Cheer competition, edging Platte-Geddes by three-and-a-half points. Redfield-Doland finished third in the Small Group Cheer competition, and ended up tied for 7th in the overall final tally.
Sioux Valley won the Large Group Cheer competition defeating Dakota Valley in the process.
