Brockel wins state title for Sunshine Bible Academy

JVC boys seventh; SBA boys eighth in Class B

RAPID CITY — Sunshine Bible Academy sophomore Shariah Brockel claimed a state championship in the Class B girls’ 400-meter race on Saturday at O’Harra Stadium in Rapid City.
Brockel turned in a winning time of 1:02.56, while Caycee Guinn of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was eighth in the event at 1:03.10.
The James Valley Christian and Sunshine Bible Academy boys’ team finished seventh and eighth, respectively in the Class B final standings, while De Smet was 13th.
SBA was second in the boys’ medley relay at 3:44.89, while JVC was third at 3:46.99.
Running for the Crusaders were Joel Underwood, Travis Hass, Willie Anderson and Christopher Hass. Making up the team for the Vikings were Ryan Wager, Mike Waldner, Zane Zuccaro and Colton Schweigert.
Christopher Hass and Travis Hass and Anderson teamed with Jace Burna to finish third in the 1,600 relay at 3:35.50. The JVC team of Zuccaro, Waldner, Josh Wieting and Schweigert) was sixth in the 1,600 relay at 3:38.38.
Clark-Willow Lake was fourth in the boys’ 800 relay at 1:33.98. Members of the team were Justus Reidburn, Grayson Florey, Josh Weisbrod and Bradyn Rusher.. Joining Reidburn, Weisbrod and Rusher in finishing fifth in the 400 relay for the Cyclones was Ntai Stevens. They had a time of 45.69.
Trevin Holland of De Smet and Jeffrey Paulson of Clark-Willow Lake shared the fourth spot in the high jump, with heights of 6-0.
Rusher was sixth in the 100 for the Cyclones at 11.34.
Paige Mehlberg was third for Clark-Willow Lake in the Class B girls’ high jump at 5-2.

Wolsey-Wessington was seventh in the Class B girls medley relay with a time of 4:43.31. Members of the team for the Warbirds were Chantel Haider, Kailen Krause, Ally Boomsma and Hailey Clark.
Jarek Kindle of Miller was fourth in the Class A boys’ 100 with a time of 11.19. He was also a member of the 400 and 800 relay teams that finished fourth and eighth, respectively, for the Rustlers with times of 44.78 and 1:34.34.
Making up both relay teams for the Miller boys were Kindle, Garrett Knox, Joey Simpson and Karst Hunter.
Kadye Fernholz was sixth in the Class A girls’ 100 hurdles for the Rustlers with a time of 16.08.
Sioux Falls Linclon cruised to the state title in the Class AA boys’ division, scoring 174 points. Rapid City Central was second at 79.5, followed by Brandon Valley at 74, Sioux Falls Washington at 66 and Watertown at 63.
The Huron boys finished 14th at 11.
Brandon Valley claimed the  Class AA girls’ state title with 108.5. Lincoln was second at 94, followed by Yankton at 72, Rapid City Stevens at 65 and Rapid City Central at 55.
St. Thomas More amassed 109.5 points to win the Class A boys’ title. Sioux Falls Christian finished second at 80, while Lennox had 49 points to edge West Central and Tri-Valley for the third spot by a point and two points, respectively.
Miller was 18th in the final Class A boys’ standing at 11.
St. Thomas More also won the Class A girls’ title with 83 points. Belle Fourche had 52 points to finish a point ahead of Vermillion for the second spot. Parker and West Central rounded out the top five with scores of 47-46, respectively.
Freeman won the Class B boys’ title with 46 points, while Viborg-Hurley was second at 42. Gregory and Wall shared the third spot with scores of 37, while Chester Area was fifth at 34.5.
The De Smet boys were 13th overall at 21.5, while Clark-Willow Lake was 21st at 16.5.
Deubrook Area won the Class B girls’ title with 84 points, while Ipswich was second at 58.5. Newell was third at 47, followed by Colman-Egan at 37 and Avon at 32.
Wolsey-Wessingotn had seven points to finish tied for 25th, while Clark-Willow Lake shared spot No. 28 with six points.
