Brookings records wins against Tigers

BROOKINGS — Brookings recorded a sweep against Huron in a spring baseball doubleheader on Wednesday at Bob Sheldon Field in Brookings.
Behind a complete-game effort from Chris Lerdal on the mound, Brookings won the opening game 11-3. Lerdal yielded all three runs on seven hits, while striking out four and walking one.
Brookings racked up 12 hits against a pair of Huron pitchers. Rick Strubel went three innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits, with two strikeouts and five walks. Walker Schiltz pitched the other three innings, allowing three runs on three hits, with a strikeout and a walk.

Parker DeJean led the Tigers offensively, with two hits. Emerson DeVries, Cully Nelson and Strubel all had doubles.
Brookings inked a 4-1 win in the second game.
Drew Cole pitched the first six innings for Brookings, allowing one run on four hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Tyler Krenther pitched the final inning, recording a pair of strikeouts and walking one.
DeJean turned in a complete game on the mound for Huron, allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Bryce Steffen had a double for the Tigers, while Chipper Shillingstad, DeJean and Daynon Huber each had a hit.
Huron will be back in action Monday, when it hosts Mitchell in a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Klock Field.
