Brotherton collects victory at BCS

A brief, but effective rain shower cut the Brown County Speedway racing program short Friday night, but not before three drivers claimed their spot in victory lane.
Andy Rossow of Florence won a flag-to-flag Street Stock feature, while Adam Brotherton of Huron was nearly untouchable in the Midwest Modified race. Aberdeen’s Kent Arment held off Mike Stearns in the Modified event just ahead of a rain shower that interrupted the Super Stock race.
Racing action was suspended midway through that Super Stock feature, which will be made up at a later date along with the Late Models.
Rossow started fourth in the Street Stocks, but moved to the front quickly, where he battled Jaida Sanderson turn-for-turn through the remainder of the race. Sanderson made several charges for the lead and Scott Witkowski also made a late charge, but neither could get a re-start to bunch up the field or slow Rossow down.
“It’s always nice to go flag to flag,” Rossow said. “Once you get out front, you never know when a caution is going to come and you never know who’s behind you, so it’s always nice to go green flag to a checkered.”
Rossow said the track held nicely through the heat races and set up well for the feature, which made for a fun feature race.
“There was some traction and there was some slick spots, but I feel it was pretty racy behind me,” he said.
Brotherton wasn’t quite as fortunate to escape without a caution flag, but also said the track was solid.
“Very racy,” Brotherton said. “Pretty fast up top, pretty fast down low. I can’t really ask for anything more than that.”
This was Brotherton’s second feature win at the track.
Meanwhile, Arment claimed his third feature win in the Modifieds, though a change of strategy midway through Friday’s race had him second-guessing himself for a moment.
Arment snagged the lead and was holding off challenger Mike Stearns and the rest of the field by holding a line down low. After a mid-race restart, however, Arment chose to reset his line up top.
“The track felt pretty equal, actually,” Arment said of the switch. “I wasn’t sure where to go. I felt pretty good on the top at the beginning, so I did dart back up there. Then I see (Stearns) a couple laps below me and I did get a little nervous, no doubt. But it was a fun race.”
Arment eventually gained some separation, but wasn’t done fending off challenges. The race featured two or three more restarts, including one with two laps to go.
“The car has been really good,” Arment said. “It felt good. It’s been really awesome. We were having fun tonight.”
The Super Stocks started their race, but the rain slicked up the track and ended the night early.
Racing action returns to Brown County Speedway next Friday.
