Anyone who has been to the Roger Kasa Baseball Complex near Washington School for opening day of Little League baseball, knew who Robert “Bob” Bushman was and what he meant to our youth baseball program in Huron.

Each opening ceremony Bob would come out to the center of the infield, pull a check from his shirt pocket, and hand it to a representative of the Huron Little League board. This entire time, from his name getting called over the PA system to taking the check from his shirt pocket, to receiving his “Red Baseball Cap,” Bob’s smile, passion, joy and love for the game of baseball was contagious! Bob would walk around to each of the fields that day, watching the kids playing baseball after he received his “New Red Baseball Cap”.

Throughout the season any given night you could see Bob watching the kids, the entire time carrying that contagious smile. 

Sadly, he passed away May 1, 2020, but in true Bob fashion, he left the current kids and future young Tigers of Huron Baseball something that will help Huron Baseball thrive forever.

So, when you’re at the Kasa complex playing a game, watching your favorite player, or just walking by the field in the northwest corner, look up at the name of that field.

Back in 2010, this field was fittingly named after Bob Bushman. Little did the Huron baseball community or his own family know what Bob had in his final shirt pocket for the Huron Little League Baseball Program.

The board of Huron Baseball is setting up an account with South Dakota Community Foundation to make sure that Bob’s generosity will continue giving for many years to come.
