HURON — Carl F. Pearson, 91, of Huron, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018, at SunQuest Healthcare Center.
His funeral service will be 10 a.m. today at Huron Christian Church with burial and military honors by the Huron Veterans Council following in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service this morning at the church.
Carl Fred Pearson was born April 2, 1926, to Bert and Ella (Maurer) Pearson on the family farm north of Forestburg. He attended country school through the 8th grade and later received his GED in 1985.
Carl was drafted for the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. While stationed in Texas, he met Joan Jackson. He was then deployed to Korea where he served as an army combat medic in the war. After returning from serving in Korea, Carl married Joan in Temple, Texas January 17, 1953. After they were married, they moved home to South Dakota, where Carl farmed and they raised their family. Carl and Joan worked long days in the field, while Carl also worked at Armour’s, and served in the National Guard for over 30 years.
In his free time, Carl enjoyed hunting and playing cards. He was a faithful member of Huron Christian Church.
Carl is survived by his children, Gail (Ken) Farnham of Tulsa, Okla., Joey (Tammi) Pearson of Brandon, Timothy (Julie) Pearson of Forestburg; grandchildren, Scott (Aurora) Farnham, Kyle (Emily) Farnham, Melissa Pearson, Amy Pearson, Kassie Pearson-Brandenberg, Cody Pearson, Tanner Ploen, Mikayla Ploen, Jenica (Patrick) Bender, Jordan (Kaitlyn) Pearson; great-grandchildren, David Farnham, Jalyn Bender, Jacee Bender, Jasen Pearson, and Kolton Pearson; brother, Delbert Pearson of Woonsocket; and sister, Eunice Olson of Mitchell.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan on October 21, 2017; one sister, Ellen Alt; and a sister in infancy.
