Casey Lee Tollefson was born March 22, 1986, to Jeffrey and Paula (Gatzke) Tollefson at Huron. He grew up in the Hitchcock area and graduated from Hitchcock High School in 2004, and was the co-valedictorian of his class. He was active in the Broadland Buddies 4-H club, church youth group, and had a passion for music that was displayed through band participation and all state chorus.
Casey then went to Dakota State University where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Business. After graduation, Casey returned home to the family farm. He was very proud of his home, crops, and livestock. Casey was a member of the Hitchcock United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees and enjoyed singing in the choir.
He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, and to a slightly less extent a fan of the Minnesota Twins. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. Casey looked forward to hunting with his college buddies every fall. He was known for the deer jerky he loved to make. To his many, many friends he was the life of the party, who loved to sing karaoke. Music was always important to him.
Casey was looked up to by his younger cousins and was an “uncle” figure to his friend’s children.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents. Casey being the oldest grandchild was one of the few to have met them. Casey and Jaxon are now singing and farming together in heaven.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his parents, Jeff and Paula Tollefson of Hitchcock; three siblings, Megan Tollefson of Wolsey, Ashley and her husband, Nathan Johnson of Wolsey, and Seth Tollefson and his fiancé, Paige Binger of Pewaukee, Wisc.; his paternal grandparents, Verlin and Susie Tollefson of Hitchcock; his maternal grandparents, Allen and Bobbie Gatzke of Hitchcock; his aunts and uncles, Craig Tollefson of Hitchcock, Todd and Michele Tollefson of Hitchcock, Tory and Jay Tollefson of Ohio, Debbie and Greg Binger of Hitchcock, Jeffery and Sheila Gatzke of Hitchcock, Teresa and Cory Mallon of Tulare, Daniel and Robin Gatzke of West Fargo, N.D., and David and Jess Gatzke of Volga; and many great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins and friends.
Casey’s generous heart was always looking out for those around him. It was his decision to continue this generosity by being a donor so others may continue to live.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Casey’s name.
