SPEARFISH — The Sioux Falls Christian Chargers roared to a 23-stroke first-round lead and were never threatened on Day 2, as they rolled to a 30-stroke win at the Class A Girls’ State Golf Tournament on Tuesday.
The Chargers finished with a 719 score, to easily outdo runner-up Sisseton’s 749. Winner closed with a solid round to finish third and Vermillion was a distant fourth in the team race.
Individual medalist honors went to Maiya Muller of Beresford. Muller, who was tied with Kelsey Heath of Sisseton after the first round, edged Heath by one stroke on Tuesday to take the title, 155 to 156.
Sydney Timms of SFC was third at 169 and St. Thomas More golfer Rylan Horning was fourth. Keva Burshiem of Flandreau, Callie Weisbeck of Mobridge-Pollock and Kierra Silk of Sisseton finished in a tie for fifth with matching 173s.
Redfield’s Abby Evans, the lone Class “A” golfer from the Heartland region, posted a 117 on Tuesday, giving her a two-day total of 238 and placing her 70th in the state.
